PARENTS ARE PART OF THE TEAM

Supporting Your Player On and Off the Field

Parents and families play an important role in every player's Little League experience. Your encouragement, preparation and involvement help create the positive environment young athletes need to learn, compete and enjoy the game.

Being a Little League parent means more than getting your player to practices and games. It means supporting their development, encouraging good sportsmanship, respecting coaches and umpires, and helping your child understand that effort, teamwork and character matter just as much as the final score.

This page brings together the information parents and guardians will need throughout the season—from team and schedule information to equipment, safety, conduct, forms and ways families can help support the league.

Everything does not have to be learned at once. Use the sections below whenever you need information during your family's Compton Little League season.

SEASON & TEAMS

What Families Can Expect During the Season

Once registration is complete, the next step is getting players onto teams and preparing for the season ahead. Compton Little League will provide families with information about team assignments, coaches, practices and games as those details are finalized.

TEAM ASSIGNMENTS

Players will be placed on teams within the appropriate baseball or softball division based on their League Age, registration information and the structure established for that division.

Some divisions may use player evaluations or a team-selection process to help create appropriate and balanced teams. Specific procedures will be communicated to families before they are used.

Once teams are established, parents will receive information identifying their player's team, manager or coach and the next steps for beginning the season.

PRACTICES

Practice schedules will be established after teams are formed and field availability is confirmed. Your player's manager or coach will provide the team's practice schedule and communicate any subsequent changes.

Families should make every effort to have players arrive on time and ready to participate. Consistent attendance helps players develop their skills and allows coaches to prepare the entire team for games.

GAMES

Game schedules will be provided when league scheduling is completed. Depending on the division, teams may play games at Compton Little League fields and, where applicable, against other Little League teams or at other approved locations.

Parents should rely on official CLL and team communications for schedules, locations and changes.

STAY CONNECTED WITH YOUR TEAM

Good communication between families and team leadership helps the season run smoothly. Once your player is assigned to a team, the manager or coach will provide information about the team's communication process and how parents will receive important updates.

Please keep your contact information current and watch for league and team communications throughout the season.

QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR TEAM?

Questions about a player's team, practices or team activities should generally begin with the team manager or coach. League-level questions can be directed to Compton Little League through the appropriate contact information provided for the season.

Equipment & Uniforms

EQUIPMENT & UNIFORMS

What Your Player Needs for Practices and Games

Having the right equipment helps players participate safely and comfortably. Some items will be provided as part of the Compton Little League program, while families will be responsible for certain personal equipment and clothing.

Specific uniform and equipment requirements may vary by baseball or softball division. Families will receive final information from CLL and their team before practices and games begin.

WHAT PLAYERS SHOULD HAVE

Players should come prepared for practices and games with:

  • Baseball or softball glove

  • Athletic shoes or appropriate cleats

  • Water bottle

  • Any other personal equipment identified by the player's coach or division

Players should clearly mark personal equipment with their name whenever possible.

BATS & HELMETS

Any bat used in Compton Little League must meet the applicable Little League equipment standards for the player's division. Families should check the requirements before purchasing a bat. CLL will provide families with additional information regarding helmets and other required protective equipment before the season.

UNIFORMS

Compton Little League will provide families with information about the official team uniform once teams are formed.

The exact items supplied by the league—and any uniform items families will be responsible for purchasing—will be communicated before games begin.

Please wait for your team's uniform instructions before purchasing uniform pieces, so colors and requirements match the player's assigned team and division.

COME READY TO PLAY

Players should arrive at practices and games in the clothing and equipment appropriate for that activity, with their glove, water and any other required personal equipment.

Managers and coaches will let families know if additional equipment is needed for a particular division or team.

SCHEDULES & WEATHER

SCHEDULES & WEATHER

Know When and Where Your Player Is Playing

Practice and game schedules are an important part of keeping the season organized. Once schedules are finalized, Compton Little League will provide families with the information they need to know when and where their player is expected to participate.

Because schedules can occasionally change during the season, parents should rely on official CLL and team communications for the most current information.

PRACTICE SCHEDULES

Practice schedules will be provided by your player's manager or coach after teams are formed and field assignments are established.

Practice days and times may vary by division, team and field availability. Coaches will communicate changes directly to their team when necessary.

GAME SCHEDULES

Official game schedules will be made available once league scheduling is completed.

Families should review the schedule regularly and pay attention to communications from CLL and their team regarding game times, locations or schedule changes.

When the league's online systems are fully activated, links to available schedules and team information can be provided here.

VIEW GAME SCHEDULES →
Schedule link will be activated when season schedules become available.

WEATHER & FIELD CONDITIONS

Rain, unsafe field conditions, excessive heat or other circumstances may sometimes require practices or games to be delayed, relocated, rescheduled or canceled.

CLL will communicate weather- or field-related changes through the appropriate league and team communication channels.

Please do not assume that a practice or game has been canceled simply because weather conditions appear unfavorable. Wait for official confirmation from CLL or your team's manager or coach.

WATCH FOR UPDATES

Parents should keep their contact information current and monitor official league and team communications, particularly on days when weather or field conditions may affect scheduled activities.

Your manager or coach will provide additional information about the communication method your team will use during the season.

PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES

PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Help Create a Positive Experience for Every Player

Parents and guardians are an important part of the Little League experience. The way adults support players, coaches, umpires and one another helps shape the environment in which children learn, compete and enjoy the game.

Compton Little League asks every family to help create an atmosphere built around encouragement, respect, sportsmanship and teamwork.

SUPPORT YOUR PLAYER

Encourage effort, improvement and good sportsmanship—not simply wins and losses.

Young players will make mistakes as they learn the game. Positive encouragement helps children develop confidence, resilience and a lasting enjoyment of baseball or softball.

Help your player arrive on time, prepared and ready to participate in practices and games.

SUPPORT THE TEAM

Respect the role of the manager and coaches and allow them to coach the players during practices and games.

Parents can help by encouraging the entire team, supporting good sportsmanship and avoiding instructions from the stands that may conflict with what coaches are teaching on the field.

Questions or concerns should be discussed with the manager or appropriate league representative at a suitable time and away from the players whenever possible.

RESPECT UMPIRES

Umpires are responsible for managing the game and making decisions on the field.

Players learn from the behavior of the adults around them. Parents and spectators should respect umpire decisions and avoid arguing calls, confronting officials or creating distractions during the game.

MODEL GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP

Cheer positively. Respect opposing players, coaches and families. Avoid profanity, taunting, hostile behavior or personal criticism.

The goal is to create an environment where every child can compete, learn and have fun without unnecessary pressure or conflict from adults.

BE PART OF THE LEAGUE

Compton Little League is a community program, and families are encouraged to participate beyond the sidelines.

Whether helping with scorekeeping, field preparation, concessions, events or other league activities, parent participation helps make the season possible.

HEALTH & SAFETY

HEALTH & SAFETY

Keeping Players Safe and Ready to Play

Player safety is a shared responsibility. Parents, coaches, volunteers and league officials all play a role in creating an environment where children can participate safely and families can feel confident about their Little League experience.

Parents can help by keeping important medical information current, making coaches aware of relevant health concerns and taking injuries seriously when they occur.

MEDICAL INFORMATION

A completed Little League Medical Release Form provides important emergency contact and medical information for each player, including allergies, medical conditions, medications and physician information.

Parents should make sure this information is accurate and current and inform the team manager or coach of medical information that may be important during practices or games.

INJURIES & CONCUSSIONS

Players who may have suffered a concussion or other significant injury should not simply return to play because they say they feel better.

Compton Little League has a Concussion Prevention, Treatment and Management Policy that calls for a player with a suspected head injury to be removed from participation and not returned until the applicable medical-clearance requirements have been satisfied.

LITTLE LEAGUE® — CONCUSSION INFORMATION →

REPORTING AN INJURY

Parents should let the manager or coach know about relevant allergies, asthma, medications, injuries or other information that could affect their child's participation.

Players should also arrive with appropriate equipment, adequate water and anything specifically required for their division or activity.

SAFETY & PLAYER PROTECTION

This Parents section provides the information families are most likely to need during the season. More detailed information about child protection, volunteer safety requirements, concussion procedures, emergency preparedness, field and equipment safety, and accident reporting will be available through CLL's dedicated Safety & Player Protection resources.
